Click on the pic to return to Peru story Qorikancha – Temple of the sun - this was my first taste of things Inca. A magnificent building. Inca construction methods allowed their buildings to withstand earthquakes. However the temple had a bit more trouble withstanding the Spanish stripping it of everything of any value. Nevertheless I marvelled at the fact that large parts of the temple are
still standing some five to six centuries later, and the efforts that
had gone into putting it up in the first place. Lots of other fascinating
and interesting facts were trotted out by the very competent guide (unfortunately
most of them now escape me – I blame the altitude…) |
