Click on the pic to return to Peru story The Inca ruins at Ollantaytambo are pretty extensive, and the climb to the top was a fairly slow and pretty exhausting affair (well it is for our poor punters that normally live at sea level anyway). Well worth the effort though for the view, and more fascinating information about what it was like during Inca times. The agricultural terraces, the naturally refrigerated storage areas built into the cold windy side of the mountains. We were transported back centuries by our guide and I could almost imagine myself as a wee Inca person on my way to the great city of Machu Picchu stopping off here for a rest and perhaps helping myself to food stores that had been very kindly left out …. |
