After a heavy night out with the girls the previous night, and an early start to catch the ferry from Wellington on North Island to Picton on South Island, I was banking on getting a bit of shuteye during the 3 hour journey. Not a chance! my eyes were firmly glued to the view. From Cook Strait just as you leave Wellington through Marlborough Sounds, and Queen Charlotte Sound on the approach to South Island it's all too good to miss. After picking up my hire car at Picton I set of for the drive to Nelson via the beautiful Queen Charlotte Scenic Drive -- not to be missed. The road is high and winding and provides more awesome views of Queen Charlotte Sound, beautiful bays, and coastal towns along the route. |
